                                                                                        FREE VIEW

     Free-view is what most people associate with free to air Digital Television. Using a Digital T.V. Aerial and a readily available Set Top Box from most electrical retailers.

                                                                     What channels do I get on Freeview?

                                                                                       Availability/Coverage

    Free-view still has limited coverage although most large towns and cities are capable of receiving signals ok as they are served by a main transmitter. If you live in a village and are surrounded by hills you may find that you are on a relay transmitter these are not capable of transmitting the digital stations and more than likely wont in the future as it will be to costly. The BBC/ITV are planning on setting a service on Satellite as well same channels but not using the Aerial so they can now get out to all these problem areas (currently not available yet but there is still SKY FREE-VIEW available to 99% of the U.K.)

    Reception.

     A Digital Television Aerial is required and in some cases even an old Aerial will work but this is due to being in good proximity to the transmitter (subject to break-up and missing channels) Free-view uses various frequencies that a normal Aerial is not capable of handling as these were grouped for specific transmitters. (Transmitter table) now a Wideband Digital Aerial is required.

   PICTURE PROBLEMS,

  If you are experiencing pictures blocking and freezing then this is a good sign of a wrong type Aerial or damaged cable etc. Channels missing is due to not enough signal getting to the S.T.B. (ITV 2 is one of the first to go off) usually an Aerial upgrade can cure this problem.
